FAGD stands for Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. This prestigious designation is awarded to dentists who exceed the basic requirements of dental school. To earn the FAGD title, a dentist must complete over 500 hours of continuing education in various areas of dentistry and pass a comprehensive exam.

At Scottsdale Cosmetic Dentistry, having a dentist with the FAGD credential means you’re receiving care from a professional who is committed to advanced training, lifelong learning, and providing the highest standard of care. It’s a mark of dedication, expertise, and excellence in dental practice.

DDS stands for Doctor of Dental Surgery, and DMD stands for Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (or Doctor of Dental Medicine). While the titles sound different, there’s no difference in the level of education, training, or qualifications. Dentists with either degree complete the same rigorous dental school curriculum, pass the same licensing exams, and are equally qualified to diagnose, treat, and manage oral health conditions.

The distinction simply depends on the dental school’s choice of terminology; some award a DDS, while others award a DMD. Both degrees represent the same standard of care and expertise.

At Scottsdale Cosmetic Dentistry, Dr. Jeffrey Clark holds a DDS, demonstrating his extensive education, clinical training, and commitment to providing exceptional dental care. Whether a dentist has a DDS or a DMD, you can trust they’ve undergone the same comprehensive preparation to deliver high-quality treatment.

Simply put, here at Scottsdale Cosmetic Dentistry, we prioritize our patients' needs and goals above all else. Led by Dr. Jeffrey D. Clark, our exceptional team is dedicated to delivering the highest quality care to every member of our community, utilizing the latest technology in a warm and welcoming environment.

CEREC Crowns and Bridges

Dental crowns typically last anywhere between a decade and 15 years, but with excellent care, they can often last much longer. Sometimes they can even last up to 20 years or more! The lifespan of a dental crown depends on several factors, including your oral hygiene habits, the type of material used, and everyday wear and tear. Certain behaviors can shorten the lifespan of your crown:

  • Teeth grinding
  • Jaw clenching
  • Chewing on ice
  • Using your teeth as tools

At Scottsdale Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer same-day crowns in Scottsdale using advanced CEREC technology, which allows us to create and place your custom crown in just one visit. These same-day ceramic crowns are strong, highly aesthetic, and precisely crafted to match the shape, color, and function of your natural tooth.

How CEREC Works

CEREC crowns are milled from a single block of high-quality ceramic, making them extremely durable and resistant to cracks and wear. However, like any dental restoration, they still require proper care. To help your crown last as long as possible, we recommend brushing twice daily, flossing once a day, wearing a nightguard if you grind your teeth, and visiting us regularly for checkups.

Call Us for Same-Day Crowns in Scottsdale

With the right care and a few smart habits, your same-day crown can keep your smile protected and beautiful for many years to come.

A crown being put on a tooth, scottsdale azDr. Clark recommends dental crowns at our Scottsdale dental office to restore a tooth’s strength, function, and appearance. Some of the reasons you might need a crown include the following:

  • Cracked or Broken Tooth — If your tooth has suffered significant damage from a crack or break, a crown can provide the necessary protection and restore its normal function.
  • Root Canaled Tooth — Following a root canal procedure, your tooth can become more brittle and vulnerable to fractures. A crown helps to reinforce the tooth and prevent further damage.
  • Severely Decayed Tooth — An extensively decayed tooth that can't be repaired with a filling will require a crown to protect the remaining tooth structure.
  • Misshapen or Discolored Tooth — A crown can also be used for cosmetic purposes to improve a tooth's aesthetics and enhance your smile.
  • Anchor a Dental Bridge — Crowns hold a dental bridge in place, filling the gap left by missing teeth and restoring your smile.

CEREC Same-Visit Crowns in Scottsdale

Dr. Clark offers CEREC same-day crowns, which allow you to receive a custom-designed, precisely fitted crown in just one visit. This means you can avoid the inconvenience of temporary crowns and multiple appointments and enjoy your new crown right away.

Invisalign® & SureSmile® Clear Aligners

Woman holding an invisalign aligner, scottsdale azUpdated in September of 2025

At Scottsdale Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer two of the most trusted clear aligner options: Invisalign and SureSmile. Here’s a brief overview of each brand and some factors to consider when deciding which is right for you:

Invisalign: The Industry Leader in Clear Aligners

Invisalign® is the most recognized name in clear aligner therapy and has been transforming smiles for over 25 years. With millions of successful cases worldwide, Invisalign remains the go-to choice for patients who want precision, flexibility, and advanced treatment capabilities.

  • Material and Comfort: Invisalign aligners are made with SmartTrack™ material, which provides a snug, comfortable fit and allows for more predictable tooth movements.
  • Treatment Range: Invisalign can treat everything from mild crowding to complex bite issues. The system also includes attachments and elastics to achieve more advanced tooth movements when necessary.
  • Technology: Invisalign uses advanced 3D scanning and AI-driven planning to deliver highly customized results.
  • Considerations: Invisalign tends to be more expensive than SureSmile and may require slightly longer treatment times for complex cases, but it’s often the best choice for patients needing comprehensive orthodontic correction.

Best for: Complex orthodontic cases, patients who want maximum customization, and those prioritizing brand reputation and proven results.

SureSmile: A Precise and Cost-Effective Alternative

SureSmile® clear aligners use advanced 3D imaging and robotic technology to plan and fabricate aligners with remarkable precision. While less well-known than Invisalign, SureSmile offers several compelling benefits — especially for patients with mild to moderate alignment needs.

  • Treatment Efficiency: SureSmile’s planning software and precise aligner design often allow for shorter treatment times.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: SureSmile is generally more affordable, making it a great choice for patients on a budget who still want excellent results.
  • Comfort and Fit: SureSmile aligners are custom-made for your teeth and designed for comfort, though they typically offer fewer advanced customization options than Invisalign.
  • Considerations: Because SureSmile is newer to the market, it may not be ideal for the most complex cases — but it’s a strong contender for many patients seeking an efficient, discreet solution.

Best for: Mild to moderate orthodontic needs, patients seeking a more budget-friendly option, and those prioritizing shorter treatment times.

SureSmile vs Invisalign: Which Is Right for You?

When deciding between SureSmile vs Invisalign, the best choice depends on your specific goals, budget, and orthodontic needs. Invisalign offers unmatched customization and brand recognition, while SureSmile delivers excellent precision and value — often with shorter treatment times.

If you're considering clear aligners in Scottsdale and wondering which option is best for you, our dentist, Dr. Jeffrey Clark, would love to help you! Please call us at (480) 585-1853.

Sleep Apnea and Snoring Treatment

Struggling with snoring, daytime fatigue, or waking up gasping for air? You might be dealing with sleep apnea, a condition where breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep.

Fortunately, there are effective treatment options to help you sleep soundly and wake up feeling refreshed. At Scottsdale Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer comfortable, non-invasive sleep apnea treatment to improve your sleep and quality of life.

1. Oral Appliance Therapy (A Dentist-Approved Solution!)

A custom oral appliance could be the perfect fix if you have mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). This small, mouthguard-like device repositions your jaw to keep your airway open while you sleep. There are no bulky machines or masks required! It’s comfortable, portable, and an excellent alternative to CPAP therapy.

2. CPAP Therapy

A Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine delivers a steady air flow to keep your airway open for moderate to severe cases. While practical, many patients find CPAP machines uncomfortable, making oral appliances a more appealing option.

3. Lifestyle Changes and Additional Treatments

Losing weight, adjusting sleep positions, or avoiding alcohol before bed can help reduce sleep apnea symptoms. In severe cases, surgical options may be considered.

Porcelain Veneers

Friends smiling together taking a selfie, scottsdale az

Dental veneers offer an effective pathway to a transformed smile. These thin porcelain shells, custom-made to fit over your natural teeth and complement your natural appearance, correct issues such as dental discoloration, chipping, and minor misalignment and spacing concerns. What exactly happens during the veneer placement process?

The Traditional Dental Veneer Process

Here’s what to expect when you get dental veneers at Scottsdale Cosmetic Dentistry with Dr. Jeffrey D. Clark:

  1. Consultation and evaluation — A comprehensive assessment of your smile goals and oral health to ensure that veneers are an appropriate solution for you.
  2. Tooth preparation — Once suitability is confirmed, a tiny layer of enamel is removed from each tooth to create space and ensure a precise fit.
  3. Impressions and temporaries — Dr. Clark will then take dental impressions, which are sent to a lab to craft your final veneers. While your custom veneers are being made, you may receive temporary veneers to protect your altered teeth.
  4. Final placement — As soon as your final veneers are ready, Dr. Clark will bond them to the fronts of your teeth, making any necessary adjustments to ensure comfort and natural appearance.

The No-Prep Veneers Procedure

The traditional veneer requires a dentist to remove a portion of the tooth enamel. With eMax® veneers—depending on your cosmetic goals and dental needs—no drilling, injections, anesthesia, or other prep is needed.

Even better, our patients typically experience little to no discomfort during the procedure. The eMax veneer is as thin as a contact lens, and Dr. Clark will place it into position and bond it to the tooth using a strong dental adhesive. Dr. Clark will lightly buff your eMax veneers to a natural, beautiful shine.

Natural-Looking, Long-Lasting Dental Veneers in Scottsdale, AZ

If you’re in Scottsdale and want to learn more about the benefits of traditional and eMax veneers, as well as their respective procedures, contact Dr. Jeffrey D. Clark and the caring, skilled Scottsdale Cosmetic Dentistry team at (480) 585-1853 to schedule a consultation.

Dental Implants

A recent follow-up study, the longest of its kind, found that single dental implants can last for several decades with the proper care. Furthermore, the results showed that bone loss around the implants is almost unchanged after 40 years.

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root forged out of titanium and surgically implanted into the jawbone. A crown is then placed on the implant. One reason that dental implants are so successful is that they undergo a process called osseointegration in which the implant fuses with the jawbone, protecting it from bone loss and creating a strong foundation.

The benefits of dental implants in Scottsdale are many:

  • Long-term tooth replacement
  • Restores chewing ability
  • Looks and feels natural
  • Safeguards jawbone health
  • Conserves surrounding teeth
  • Brush and floss just like natural teeth

Dental Implant Options in Scottsdale

At Scottsdale Cosmetic Dentistry, Dr. Clark and Dr. Santoro offer several options for replacing missing teeth, including:

  • Single-tooth implants — These types of implants replace a single tooth.
  • Implant bridges — This form of implant is used to replace several missing teeth in a row.
  • Implant-supported dentures — This type of implant replaces a full arch of missing teeth.
  • All-on-x implants — These implants replace a full arch of missing teeth with four to six strategically placed implants.

Ready to Restore Your Smile?

Don’t let missing teeth affect your confidence or oral health any longer. Our experienced team at Scottsdale Cosmetic Dentistry is ready to answer all of your questions and help you determine if dental implants are right for you. Contact us today to schedule a consultation and take the first step toward a permanent solution.

If you’re considering replacing a missing tooth, dental implants are one of the most reliable and natural-looking options available. But before moving forward, many patients understandably want to know: How much do dental implants cost in Scottsdale?

The Cost of Dental Implants in Scottsdale

At Scottsdale Cosmetic Dentistry, the cost of implant treatment typically ranges from $2,500 to $5,000 per implant. The exact price depends on several factors, including the complexity of your case, the type of restoration required, and whether additional procedures, such as bone grafting or a sinus lift, are necessary to ensure proper support.

It’s important to remember that this investment covers more than just the implant itself. The treatment process involves the surgical placement of the implant, the abutment (connector piece), and a custom crown designed to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth, thereby fully restoring biting and chewing function. Each step requires advanced technology, precision, and the expertise of an experienced implant dentist, such as Dr. Jeffrey Clark.

Are Dental Implants Worth It?

While dental implants may cost more upfront than alternatives like dentures or bridges, they are designed to last decades with proper care. This long-term durability makes implants one of the most cost-effective solutions for restoring your smile and oral health.

If you’d like a personalized estimate, schedule a consultation with Scottsdale Cosmetic Dentistry to discuss your options and get a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Smile Restoration with Dental Implants in Scottsdale

If you’re in Scottsdale and want to learn more about the array of available tooth replacement solutions and why dental implants are so often the preferred option, contact Dr. Jeffrey D. Clark and the knowledgeable Scottsdale Cosmetic Dentistry team to schedule a consultation!

Woman getting fitted for dental implant, scottsdale azAt Scottsdale Cosmetic Dentistry Excellence, Dr. Clark offers several options to replace missing teeth with dental implants, including:

Single-Tooth Implants  These implants replace a single tooth and are designed to restore smile integrity with a natural look and feel. An implant functions like a natural tooth and requires no special maintenance, so you can brush and floss as usual.

Implant Bridges  Implant bridges replace several missing teeth in a row. Nearby teeth support traditional dental bridges, but an implant bridge is supported by one or more titanium posts securely implanted in the jawbone.

Implant-Supported Dentures  Implant-supported dentures replace a full arch of missing teeth. Replacement teeth are attached to implants in the jawbone, which give the denture unparalleled stability. Slipping and shifting dentures are a thing of the past, and you can smile confidently and eat all your favorite foods comfortably.

All-on-X Implants — This option replaces a full arch of missing teeth with as few as four strategically placed dental implants. We expertly place the implants, and you'll leave us the same day with a full set of temporary teeth you'll wear as the implants heal over several months. After healing, we replace the temporaries with a beautiful, natural-looking custom denture that will never shift or move.

We understand there's a lot to consider with dental implants, and we would be happy to schedule a consultation appointment to see if you're a good candidate. Please call our Scottsdale dental office to get started!

D’ASBA stands for Diplomate of the American Society for Bone and Implantology. This prestigious credential is awarded to dentists who complete advanced, specialized training in implant dentistry and bone-related surgical procedures. Earning the D’ASBA title demonstrates a dentist’s deep expertise in planning, placing, and restoring dental implants, as well as managing complex cases involving bone grafting or reconstruction.

Dr. Jeffrey Clark at Scottsdale Cosmetic Dentistry holds this distinguished credential, reflecting his advanced skill and commitment to excellence in implant dentistry. His extensive training and hands-on experience allow him to deliver precise, predictable implant treatments and cutting-edge bone procedures, ensuring his patients receive the highest standard of care.

Tooth Extractions

No one wants to hear they need a tooth extraction, but sometimes it’s the only option. At Scottsdale Cosmetic Dentistry, we perform gentle extractions and help you choose the best tooth replacement options for your smile.

But how long does it take to recover from a tooth extraction? Keep reading to learn more.

Recovering from a Tooth Extraction: What You Need to Know

Your recovery time may vary depending on which tooth was removed and whether it was a surgical extraction. In most cases, recovery time ranges from seven days to two weeks.

  • During the first 24 hours after an extraction, you could experience soreness, swelling, and light bleeding. This is normal as the clot forms.
  • Once the clot forms in 24 to 48 hours, the bleeding will stop, and you shouldn’t be feeling any discomfort.
  • After three days, your tooth socket will be mostly healed, but it will take a bit longer for it to heal completely.

Questions About Tooth Extractions in Scottsdale, AZ?

If you have questions or concerns about an upcoming extraction and you’d like to speak with a dental team member, just give us a call! At Scottsdale Cosmetic Dentistry, we’re here to help you restore your smile and achieve the best oral health possible.

You can reach us at (480) 585-1853.

Man getting prepped for tooth extraction, scottsdale azAt Scottsdale Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer a full range of services to help you maintain a healthy smile for a lifetime. Even so, there are times when it’s in the best interest of your oral health and safety to remove a problematic tooth.

Reasons for Tooth Extraction

There are several reasons why Dr. Clark might recommend removing a tooth as the most sensible option:

  • Severe Decay or Damage — When damage is extensive, and we’ve exhausted all options to preserve it, extraction may be the only option to prevent further infection or complications.
  • Impacted Wisdom Teeth — Wisdom teeth can become impacted, leading to pain, infection, or alignment issues. Extraction is often the best solution to avoid these complications.
  • Overcrowding — Extraction may be recommended before orthodontic treatment to create space and ensure proper alignment of the remaining teeth.
  • Infection or Abscess — Extraction may be required if the infection has reached the tooth’s pulp or surrounding bone and cannot be effectively treated with a root canal.
  • Periodontal Disease — Advanced gum disease can loosen teeth, and the only option to maintain oral health is to remove them.
  • Preparation for Dentures or Implants — Extraction may be needed to remove unhealthy teeth before fitting dentures or placing dental implants.

If you need a tooth extraction in Scottsdale, AZ, you can count on Dr. Clark and our dental team to ensure a safe, comfortable procedure. Call us today at (480) 585-1853 so we can provide the expert care you need.

Composite Bonding and Fillings

Updated in October of 2025

If you chip a tooth, please don’t panic, but act quickly. First, gently swish your mouth with warm water to clean the area. If there’s any bleeding, apply gentle pressure with a piece of gauze or a clean cloth. Try to find and save any broken fragments, and store them in a clean container with milk or saliva. Avoid chewing on the damaged side and contact your dentist as soon as possible for an evaluation.

Emergency Care for a Chipped Tooth in Scottsdale

At Scottsdale Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer prompt and effective treatment for chipped teeth, whether the damage is minor or more severe. Our experienced cosmetic dentists provide same-day solutions whenever possible to relieve discomfort and restore your appearance.

Common Treatments for Chipped Teeth

Dental Bonding in Scottsdale – Ideal for small or moderate chips, dental bonding uses tooth-colored composite resin to rebuild your tooth’s shape and surface. The procedure is quick, affordable, and completed in a single visit.

Dental Fillings or Crowns – For larger chips or fractures that affect your bite or the tooth’s structure, we may recommend a dental filling or crown. These treatments strengthen the tooth and prevent further damage or sensitivity.

Porcelain Veneers – If the chip is on a front tooth, a porcelain veneer can cover the flaw and improve your overall smile aesthetics for long-lasting results.

Teeth Whitening

Man and woman smiling after teeth whitening, scottsdale azYes, teeth whitening is safe when performed under the guidance of a cosmetic dentist in Scottsdale like Dr. Jeffrey Clark and his team. Compared to over-the-counter (OTC) products, professional whitening offers several key benefits:

Professional Whitening vs. OTC Products

We carefully monitor your treatment to ensure the products used are effective yet gentle on your teeth and gums.

  • Customized Treatment — Dr. Clark assesses your dental health and tailors the whitening process to your specific needs, ensuring optimal results while minimizing the risk of sensitivity or irritation.
  • Stronger Whitening Agents — Unlike OTC products, the active ingredients in professional whitening products are highly concentrated leading to more dramatic and faster results.
  • Even Coverage — Custom-fitted trays used in take-home kits and the careful application of whitening gel during in-office treatments prevent uneven whitening and protect sensitive gum tissue.
  • Reduced Sensitivity Risk — We can adjust your treatment to your needs, minimizing the risk of tooth sensitivity that can sometimes occur with whitening. Dr. Clark can also recommend specific products or techniques to alleviate any sensitivity.
  • Controlled Environment — Whitening with a cosmetic dentist means careful control over the process to reduce the risk of overuse or improper application that can sometimes occur with OTC products. This ensures your enamel is protected and the whitening process is as safe as possible.

Choosing professional teeth whitening enhances the safety and effectiveness of the treatment and ensures you achieve a bright, beautiful smile with minimal risks. If you’re ready to get started, call Scottsdale Cosmetic Dentistry today at (480) 585-1853 to schedule an appointment.

There’s nothing like that first cup of coffee in the morning, and many people enjoy a nice glass of wine with their favorite meal. Unfortunately, these simple pleasures can lead to tooth stains and discoloration.

Thankfully, professional teeth whitening can eliminate stubborn tooth stains, but will it work on all types of stains?

Does Teeth Whitening Remove All Types of Stains?

No, there are some stains that professional teeth whitening may not remove.

Let’s take a look at the two different types of stains:

  • Extrinsic stains — These stains are on your tooth’s surface and are caused by coffee, tea, wine, berries, and tobacco. Because they haven’t penetrated your tooth enamel, teeth whitening is often effective.
  • Intrinsic stains — These stains are below your tooth enamel in the dentin layer of your tooth and are caused by trauma, certain medications, ageing, or too much fluoride. Although teeth whitening may work for some intrinsic stains, your dentist may recommend other treatment options, such as bonding, veneers, or cosmetic crowns.

Preventive Dentistry

Woman pulling down lip, scottsdale azRoutine preventive care is crucial for healthy gums. If you develop periodontal disease, we offer effective options to treat it and help you maintain healthy gums.

Periodontal Treatment Options

If you have mild gum disease called gingivitis, our hygienist may recommend a comprehensive teeth cleaning and improved at-home oral hygiene to eliminate the disease. For more advanced gum disease called periodontitis, we will personalize treatment to restore and manage your gum health moving forward.

Scaling & Root Planing

We offer a deep cleaning treatment called scaling and root planing for more advanced gum disease cases. Scaling uses specialized tools to remove plaque, tartar, and damaged tissue below the gumline. Root planing smooths tooth roots to prevent plaque and tartar buildup by removing the areas where buildup accumulates.

Laser Gum Treatment

The purpose of any periodontal treatment is to halt gum disease development. We must eliminate bacteria under the gumline, remove infected tissue, and close gum pockets to achieve this.

Innovative laser dentistry allows a dentist to perform these tasks in a less invasive, more comfortable manner that may shorten and enhance healing. This process stimulates stem cells, which can form collagen to restore bones and ligaments that support teeth.

If you have signs of gum disease, such as bleeding or swollen gums, chronic bad breath, or loose teeth, we recommend prompt treatment. Please call our Scottsdale, AZ, dental office at (480) 585-1853 to schedule an appointment so we can help you.
